Yeah, Free Agents are never free, are they?
Anyway, there are some interviews scheduled.
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/seahawksblog/2011276949_freeagencyroundup.html
WR Brandon Marshall - Arrived: March 6
DL Dwan Edwards - Visited: March 5
DE Tyler Brayton - Scheduled visit: March 8-9
TE Ben Watson - Scheduled visit: March 8
OG Ben Hamilton - Dates uncertain
CB William James - Scheduled visit: March 11
TE Chris Baker - Dates uncertain
RB Mike Bell - Dates uncertain
I get everything except the interest in TEs. Is it that they see Carlson as a receiver, but not a run/pass blocker? Do they just want more depth? Are they looking for more of a second tackle for zone schemes? The guys they're looking at are a couple inches shorter and a few pounds heavier than Carlson.
Or maybe they see this as a position with youth, so we can afford to get an older guy for depth. _________________ -CamasMan

| I am also kinda baffled about the Ben Watson visit. Isn't he NE #1 TE? Why would they bring him in peroid? Im lost on this visit. I didn't even know Watson was a blocking TE, I thought he was Brady's #1 TE? |

Tyler Brayton is best known for kicking Jeremy Stevens in the nads. Dwan Edwards is pretty good, but I'm always wary of a guy who may look real good when playing on a great defense. Look at Adalius Thomas in New England, I could see a similar result with Dwan Edwards leaving Baltimore. None of the above guys really get me excited other than obviously Brandon Marshall, but as we've seen over the past ten years, winners are built through the draft in this league. Free agency is for baseball. _________________ Football games aren't played on paper, they're played inside TV sets. |

| Mike Bell runs hard. I would love to have him here. Seeing as how the Saints are talking about keeping Bush, it might be a little easier to lure him away. I've also seen a lot of Dwan Edwards. He would be a good signing too, unspectacular but very solid. |

Bell looks good to me too. I like Forsett and would love to see him paired with a power runner. Getting Duckett was good in concept, but he had too narrow a role. Bell looks like he can get lots of touches and he has power for short yardage too.
Why is this role important for the 'Hawks? ...Do we really want Matt doing quarterback sneaks? _________________ -CamasMan

| I don't even understand the visit peroid...Watson is a starting caliber TE, and we have one of the top 8 in the leauge in Carlson. Waste of time PC, spend it on something that can fix what is broke. |

| It should prove interesting, contrasting the Carroll and Holmgren rebuilding efforts over the next few years. |

My guess is that this is the work of Alex Gibbs. I read an article recently that claimed that Seattle used the fewest two tight end sets in the league. It makes sense. Holmgren never had a stud TE until Carlson came along. We had trouble enough finding one, let alone two.
Gibbs and Carroll want a run first offense. Two TEs help with run blocking, and either one can leak out for the quick pass. And with the LT position unsettled, a second TE is good insurance. Probably cheaper than getting a stud WR too. Besides, with Matt's arm we need short yardage threats, not downfield sprinters.
This move tells me that Carroll will be looking for an outside run threat. Maybe Rankin is that guy. Forsett is quick, but he's not fast enough to win the race to the edge. Neither is Jones. And, maybe Carroll has plans for a new face in the backfield... _________________ -CamasMan

Depth is never a bad thing in the NFL, the Hawks can vouch for that first hand over the past few injury-riddled seasons. Seems like a fair price/value, I like the addition for sure. _________________ Football games aren't played on paper, they're played inside TV sets. |

Methinks so to. Really curious to see how the Carrol era plays out. I think I'm being realistic in not setting expectations too high.
With all the negative noise over Holmgren the last couple years, people seem to forget how sad both Seattle and Green Bay franchises were before he did what he does. |
